Newcastle have continued a busy off-season in the NRL player market by signing former Manly prop Josh Starling.

Starling has signed a one-year deal with the Knights after playing 67 games with the Sea Eagles and South Sydney since making his NRL debut in 2012.

Starling joins Jamie Buhrer as another former Sea Eagles player to join Newcastle for the 2017 season.

The 26-year-old was released by Manly at the end of the 2016 season, but Knights coach Nathan Brown said Starling would be an asset to the club.

"Josh is a good competitor, a great trainer and does a lot of wonderful work in the community," Brown said.

"These are all qualities on and off the field that are important to have around our young squad."

The Knights have also signed Rory Kostjasyn (North Queensland) and Ken Sio (Hull KR) to their roster.
