Former Indonesian foreign minister Marty Natalegawa believes Australia and his country are at a "key juncture" in their relations.
Mr Natalegawa said the two countries had had difficult moments in the past, but always managed to keep communication lines open.
"I'm not sure that kind of communication is going on at the moment whether public or private," he told Sky News on Monday.
