Ex-NRL star Field guilty of killing farmer

Former South Sydney rugby league captain Craig Field has been found not guilty of murder but guilty of the manslaughter of a NSW farmer.

Former NRL player Craig Field has been found guilty of the one-punch killing of a cattle farmer at a pub in 2012.

The former South Sydney rugby league captain was accused of murdering Tweed cattle farmer Kelvin Kane outside a hotel in July 2012.

On Tuesday the Supreme Court jury in Lismore found him not guilty of murder but guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Mr Kane, 50, was found lying unconscious outside a pub at Kingscliff, on the NSW north coast.

Field was arrested at the scene.

Mr Kane was placed on life support in hospital but later died.

Field who was represented by Tony Bellanto QC throughout the trial will return to court for mention on December 15.
