A War Memorial exhibition hopes to shed new light on the ways Australian artists reacted to the Second World War.

Opening in Sydney next month, 'Reality in Flames: Australian Art and the Second World War' will coincide with the 75th anniversary of the start of the War.

The collection, part of the Australian War Memorial's Travelling Exhibition program, includes 90 paintings, sculptures and works on papers.

Curator Warwick Heywood told Georgie Moore the collection features renowned Australian artists such as Russell Drysdale, Sidney Nolan and Albert Tucker and Nora Heyson, as well as artworks from official war artists.
