Explosion heard in Budapest city centre: report

Two people have been injured in an explosion in the Oktogon area of Budapest in Hungary, local media is reporting.

A large police operation is underway as hundreds of people appear out on the streets following an explosion in the Oktogon section of Hungary's capital Budapest, Sky News is reporting citing the country's disaster management agency.

At least two people, believed to be police officers, were injured in the incident local paper the Hungarian Blikk Daily reported.

The cause of the explosion is yet to be determined but people at the scene have described glass on the street and ambulances transporting victims away.

Police officers are believed to be among the injured taken to hospital following the blast which occurred at 11pm.
