Several people are reported dead after a series of bomb blasts in Jakarta.

Witnesses say they heard several explosions and there were possibly up to six near the United Nations building.

Local TV reports say police exchanged gunfire with someone outside a Starbucks cafe.

Andreas Harsano is with the advocacy group Human Rights Watch in Jakarta.

He told Greg Dyett, the explosions at the Starbucks cafe took place in the busy Sarinah shopping centre near major hotels, embassies and the presidential palace.
