Expose forces Withers to leave AOC board

Russell Withers has announced his retirement from the Australian Olympic Committee board following a Four Corners expose on 7-Eleven.

Long-time Australian Olympic Committee board member Russell Withers will stand down from the AOC executive following a damning Four Corners expose.

The ABC TV program revealed 7-Eleven, of which Withers is the Australian owner and chairman, had a history of allegedly underpaying staff.

Withers wrote to AOC president John Coates expressing his wish to stand down so as to not bring the organisation into disrepute.

"I wanted to let you know that I am in your hands and happy to either stand aside or stand down from my AOC roles," said Withers.

"I certainly don't want to see any blow-back onto the AOC, particularly when the AOC runs to such high governance standards."
