Humanitarian organisation Save the Children has welcomed an additional $21.5-million in Australian aid for Syria.
The funds will be spent on emergency food and medical supplies, shelter for refugees and ensuring people have safe drinking water.
It's estimated 1.8 million refugees have fled their homes since the Syrian conflict began in 2011 .
Save the Children's Stephen McDonald says the extra Australian aid is urgently needed, as conditions worsen, particularly at the Zaatari refugee camp in neighbouring Jordan.
Mr McDonald told Hannah Sinclair children and families are most in need of international support.
