Extra NZ security in place for Anzac Day

Police have put extra security measures in place after viewing a video which attempted to incite violent acts at Anzac Day events in NZ and Australia.

New Zealand police have put extra security measures in place after a Kiwi posted a video online trying to incite Anzac Day violence.

Kiwi jihadi Mark Taylor, who claims to be fighting with Islamic State in Syria, posted the video on YouTube in an attempt to incite violent acts at Anzac Day events in Australia and New Zealand.

"The identity of this individual is well known to New Zealand authorities, and he has previously sought publicity to air his views," New Zealand Police Commissioner Mike Bush said.

Police had conducted a thorough assessment of the video, he said.

"We take our responsibility for the safety and security of New Zealanders very seriously and, while we are unable to go into detail, we have already taken further security measures."

Police were satisfied all appropriate measures were in place, Mr Bush said.

"Zealanders should feel confident in attending Anzac Day events as planned, while exercising their usual vigilance in light of the current global security environment."

Prime Minister John Key told 3 News he was taking the threat seriously.

"It just reaffirms what I've been saying, that IS is a war that they are trying to bring to New Zealand."
