Facebook meeting leads to alleged assault

A man accused of sexually assaulting a teenager he met on social media will appear in a Sydney court.

A 13-year-old boy was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man in Sydney after the pair met on social media and exchanged more than 2500 messages.

Child Abuse Squad detectives posing as the boy on Facebook allegedly caught the man when they arranged a meeting at Marrickville on Sunday.

They set it up after learning of the alleged assault in Bankstown earlier this month.

They say more than 2500 messages had been exchanged between the pair.

A 25-year-old man will appear in Newtown Local Court on Monday charged with offences including aggravated sexual assault and procuring a child to produce child abuse material.
