Fairness behind price hikes: WA treasurer

WA treasurer Ben Wyatt says a $169 increase to electricity for all households is to ensure all residents are paying their share of being connected to the grid.

The additional $169 per year West Australians will pay to be connected to the grid reflects the price electricity suppliers pay for connection, the state treasurer says.

Treasurer Ben Wyatt rejected suggestions the increase of 10.9 per cent targeted particular groups, such as residents who use solar panels, telling reporters on Friday the charge was "all about the equity and fairness in ensuring people pay to be connected to the grid".

Water and sewerage prices will go up six per cent, or $96.90, Mr Wyatt announced on Thursday.
