Self-proclaimed Sydney sheikh Junaid Thorne will hear whether he will avoid jail and serve his sentence in the community for taking a domestic flight under a false name.

The 26-year-old was sentenced to a minimum six months in jail at Central Local Court in June, after pleading guilty to two aviation offences.

A judgment will be handed down at the Downing Centre District Court on Thursday, determining whether Thorne will be referred for an intensive corrections order assessment.

Thorne controversially supported the Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris and slain teen terror suspect Numan Haider through online postings.

He has appealed the prison sentence along with co-offender Mostafa Shiddiquzzaman, 19, who travelled with him and also gave a false name.

Shiddiquzzaman was sentenced in June to a minimum of five months in jail.
