The children of two Australian victims of the MH17 attack have thanked authorities for identifying their parents and say they are thinking of everyone who lost family in the tragedy.

Maree and Albert Rizk were among the 38 Australian residents killed when the Malaysia Airlines passenger jet was shot down over eastern Ukraine in July.

Their family on Sunday issued a brief statement through the government.

"We wish to thank all those who have helped identify our parents, Maree and Albert, whom we miss so dearly," they said.

"Our thoughts are also with all the families affected by this tragedy. We look forward now to the return of our parents and hope that all the families will soon have their loved ones returned to them."

The couple, from Sunbury in Melbourne's north, were active in the local community where Albert worked as a real estate agent.

The department also said that family would not be making further statements and had requested that at this time the media not contact them, their extended family or friends.

It is unclear whether other Australian's remains have been identified as the government insists details remain private until family members give permission.

Dutch authorities, who are in charge of the process and have identified 127 people, have been ordered not to release details of Australians.

So far they have confirmed the identity of passengers from Malaysia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada, Belgium and Germany.
