A soccer ball kicked into the crowd is bouncing back to Rod Stewart in the form of a lawsuit by a Southern California man who says his nose was broken at a Las Vegas concert in October 2012.

Mostafa Kashe's civil negligence complaint filed on Monday in Nevada's state court alleges that a ball that the raspy-voiced British singer kicked from the stage at the Caesars Palace resort hit him.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages of at least $US10,000 ($A10,820) plus lawyers' fees from Stewart, promoter AEG Live and Caesars Entertainment Corp.

Representatives of the defendants didn't immediately comment on the case.

Kashe's lawyer, Larry Weinsteen, says Kashe has "substantial" injuries, including the loss of the sense of smell.

Stewart is known for hits including Maggie May and Tonight's the Night.
