Robbie Farah says he is flattered by talk he could take over the NSW captaincy from Paul Gallen, but expects the Cronulla skipper to recover from injury in time for State of Origin I.

Gallen remains a 50-50 proposition for the opening interstate match in Sydney on May 27 as he battles a hip injury.

But Farah believes Gallen will be there.

"It's nice to be thought of as skipper but if I know 'Gal' he will be there," Farah said at training on Tuesday.

Farah previously captained the Blues in the final game of the 2013 Origin series when Gallen was absent through injury.
