Salary cap issues are set to force skipper Robbie Farah out of the Wests Tigers, after the NSW hooker was given permission to negotiate with other NRL clubs for next season despite being under contract.
Coach Jason Taylor has previously spoken of the Tigers' "horrendous" salary cap position.
And in a statement on Tuesday night the club said the decision to allow Farah to leave, would give the Tigers "a chance to restructure the football team to allow for future success".
"Wests Tigers has tonight confirmed that captain Robbie Farah has been granted permission to investigate opportunities to continue his playing career at another club following the 2015 NRL season," the statement read.
"Farah has been a key member of the Wests Tigers playing squad since making his debut in 2003 and has made an invaluable contribution to the club both on and off the field in that time.
"The decision was not made lightly but ultimately allows the club a chance to restructure the football team to allow for future success."
Farah still has two years remaining on his current deal with the Tigers.
The 31-year-old debuted for the club in 2003, was a member of the 2005 premiership winning side and has played 236 games for the club.
The last placed Tigers are in a dogfight to avoid the wooden spoon in Taylor's first year in charge with two rounds remaining.
They host the Warriors at Campbelltown Stadium on Sunday.
