Police are treating as suspicious a fire in central Queensland that claimed a life and destroyed a home.
The fire broke out about 9.30pm (AEST) on Sunday at a home at the Gladstone beachside suburb of Barney Point.
A firefighter told the ABC the ferocity of the blaze kept crews at bay.
He said they were initially told the property's two female occupants weren't at home.
But after the blaze was extinguished, officers found the body of a man inside.
He has not yet been identified.
The house has been declared a crime scene and investigations are continuing.
