James Faulkner has undergone scans on an injured knee and is in doubt for the start of the upcoming Twenty20 series against England.

The man-of-the-match from Australia's five-run one day win on Sunday joins Shaun Marsh and Jackson Bird as injury concerns grow ahead of the Test tour of South Africa.

Impressive allrounder Faulkner will be assessed in Melbourne on Monday while the rest of the T20 squad heads to Melbourne ahead of Wednesday's opener at Bellerive Oval.

Batsman Marsh left the field with a calf problem on Sunday and is being assessed, while fast bowler Bird is nursing a jarred back.

The majority of the Australian Test side is due to fly to South Africa on Wednesday ahead of a three match series.
