WA firefighters are confident favourable weather conditions will help contain a bushfire in the state's southwest.

The blaze south of Uduc in the Shire of Harvey threatened the historic town of Wokalup, prompting evacuations, but was downgraded to watch and act early on Tuesday.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services said water bombers and helitacs made good progress against the fire until sunset, and 300 firefighters fought the blaze overnight.

Spokesman Mark Nolan said about noon the fire was "100 per cent contained".

Mr Nolan said the effort had been helped by easing winds, which had since picked up and caused a few flare-ups, but these were well within containment lines.

Another DFES spokesman, Mark Graham, said wind directions were extremely variable, however, and could reach speeds of 35km/h late on Tuesday while temperatures were forecast to hit 36C.

The fire has burnt 1120 hectares and the cause remains unknown.

An advice alert remains in place for a separate bushfire 10km east of Harvey that was deliberately lit from three ignition points and has burnt through about 50 hectares.
