Fears more flooding for Myanmar

CARE Australia is distributing thousands of seed and fertiliser packs in Myanmar, as flooding wipe out farmlands and rice paddies.

There are fears a low pressure system will dump even more water over flood-ravaged parts of Myanmar (Burma), worsening a food security crisis.

Flooding since mid-July has affected one million people, clocked a death toll of 103 and damaged almost 700,000 acres of farmland and rice paddies.

CARE Australia country director Stav Zotalis says the aid group is distributing 6000 seed packages and fertiliser to help poor families replant rice and home gardens.
