The darkest day may have passed but Parramatta players face years of anger over the club's salary cap scandal, according to former Melbourne player Matt King.
King was playing overseas when the Storm's salary cap scandal erupted in 2010, however he was a part of the 2007 squad which had their premiership title stripped as a result.
Now he fears Parramatta players will be tarnished with the same brush that his Storm teammates are still battling with.
"Unfortunately they (the Eels) get caught in the crosshairs as did the Melbourne Storm players all those years ago," said King on Sky Sports Radio.
"I know some of my best mates are still really dirty that they got touted as a cheats when they just got paid exactly what they agreed to."
NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg reminded players on Tuesday that they have an obligation to work with the NRL in any instance of cheating, warning the ramifications would be significant for any players who failed to do so.
But King did not believe that players would have had knowledge of the alleged systemic rorting.
"The players really sign on the dotted line, they get paid what they agree to and they move on," he said.
