Another federal MP has been caught using a mobile phone behind the wheel days after Opposition Leader Bill Shorten was fined for the same thing.

A photo of Corangamite MP Sarah Henderson looking at her phone while driving a four-wheel-drive emblazoned with her name in Geelong was taken on Thursday.

The Liberal backbencher issued a short statement to the Herald Sun on Friday, admitting it was "wrong" and an "error of judgment".

"Last night, while driving, I looked at my phone. This was obviously the wrong thing to do and I apologise for this error of judgment," the statement said.

Victoria Police have confirmed they are investigating the claim.
