Sixteen organisations providing services to ethnic communities are among the recipients of 60 million dollars in federal funding for aged care.

It's part of a grants fund made available under the 3.7 billion dollar Living Longer Living Better aged care reform plan announced last year.

The Aged Care Service Improvement and Healthy Ageing Grants Fund will deliver 378 million dollars over the next four years to initiatives that -- as the government says -- promote healthy and active ageing, including among elderly migrant Australians.

Mark Butler was the federal Minister for Ageing at the time when the grants funding was being allocated last week.

He's told Kumud Merani from SBS Radio's Hindi program, the legislative reforms come in response to the changing needs of Australia's ageing population.
