Federal opposition seeks to clarify boat turn-backs position

Highly contentious yet somewhat successful ... opposition immigration spokesman Richard Marles is now seeking to clarify these comments about the federal government's asylum boat turn-back policy.

 

Mr Marles says Labor might continue turning back the boats, but only if it is safe to do so and has Indonesia's backing.

 

As Amanda Cavill reports, the government says the comments amount to an embarrassing back-down by the opposition.
