Federer makes winning start to 2016

Roger Federer is into the Brisbane International quarter-finals after easing past German qualifier Tobias Kamke on Thursday night.

Roger Federer's 2016 campaign is off to a solid start after booking his place in the Brisbane International quarter-finals on Thursday night.

The Swiss maestro and current world no.3 made light work of German qualifier Tobias Kamke, winning 6-2 6-1 at Pat Rafter Arena.

Rumours were swirling on Thursday that Federer was carrying a forearm injury and would potentially withdraw from the tournament, but the 34-year-old appeared to be largely unencumbered against world No.233 Kamke, who mounted little resistance.
