Federer opens against Bolelli in Davis Cup

Roger Federer kicks off the action in the Davis Cup semi-final between Switzerland and Italy in Geneva.

Roger Federer will play the opening singles match for Switzerland against Simone Bolelli of Italy in the Davis Cup semifinals.

Stan Wawrinka will face Italian No.1 Fabio Fognini in Friday's second singles on a hard court at the Palexpo indoor arena.

In Saturday's doubles, Federer and Wawrinka, the 2008 Olympic champions, are scheduled to face Andreas Seppi and Paolo Lorenzi.

The reverse singles are Sunday, with Federer v Fognini and Wawrinka v Bolelli.

The 18,000-capacity Palexpo is sold out for the three-day clash.

The winners will play France or two-time defending champions Czech Republic in the final, scheduled for November 21-23.

Switzerland have never won the Davis Cup, while Italy captured their only title in 1976.
