Federal Labor MP David Feeney has resigned from parliament after failing to locate documents renouncing his British citizenship and won't recontest his seat.

* Federal Labor MP David Feeney has resigned from parliament after failing to locate documents renouncing his British citizenship.

* Yet he can find documents renouncing his Irish ties.

* Feeney was elected as a Labor senator for Victoria in 2007.

* He switched houses in 2013 after winning the Melbourne seat of Batman.

* He had a stint as parliamentary secretary for Defence from 2010-2013.

* Feeney was considered one of Labor's faceless men - a factional warlord.

* In 2016, he forgot to declare a $2.3 million investment property on the parliamentary register.
