Fellowes to end long netball career

Australian defender Demelza Fellowes will play her last netball game when her Tactix team play the Magic in their last game of the trans-Tasman league.

After 18 years of warm-ups, ice baths, footwork drills and strapping tape, Tactix defensive import Demelza Fellowes says it's time to call it quits.

The 35-year-old Australian will complete her lengthy netball career when the Tactix host the Magic in Christchurch on Sunday in their final trans-Tasman netball match of the season.

The Tactix have struggled this season, and are yet to record a win after 12 matches.

Fellowes, whose career included stints in the Australian Diamonds in 2004-5 and 2013, says it's the right time to stand aside.

"My body and my heart are telling me yes and there is a great bunch of talent in the league ready for me to step aside and give them a go," she said.

Fellowes, who played for the Tactix in the inaugural 2008 trans-Tasman league, has also turned out for Queensland Firebirds, Southern Steel and Melbourne Vixens.

She plans to remain in Christchurch, continuing in the youth work role she fills with new husband Saia.
