Female pedophiles focus of Qld summit

A Gold Coast summit on tackling child sex abuse will look at the largely unexplored issue of women who abuse minors.

Women who commit sexual crimes against children and the role of social media in abuse cases will be the focus of a major summit on the Gold Coast.

Police, psychologists and educators are among 300 delegates meeting on Monday to discuss the latest global trends in fighting child sexual abuse.

Detective Inspector Jon Rouse, from Taskforce Argos which hunts down online predators, said it was time to devote more attention to the largely unexplored topic of women offenders.

"We will explore the topic from a variety of angles including offender motivation, methodologies, psychology and strategies for identifying and prosecuting offenders," he said.

"We'll also focus on social media and the role the industry giants play in helping to prevent and address these crimes."
