Ferrer back for Spain in Davis Cup tie

World No.7 David Ferrer will lead Spain's Davis Cup team in Russia, as the five-time winners try to return to the World Group.

David Ferrer will return after a three-year absence to lead Spain's Davis Cup team in Russia, as the five-time winners try to return to the World Group.

New Spanish captain Conchita Martinez has announced her five-man team of Ferrer, Pablo Andujar, likely double's pair Marc Lopez and David Marreno, and reserve player Daniel Gimeno.

The seventh-ranked Ferrer, who is missing Wimbledon because of an elbow injury, hasn't played for Spain since 2012.

The tie will be played from July 17-19 in Vladivostok.

Martinez was named Spain's captain on Monday, replacing predecessor Gala Leon amid a shake-up at the Spanish tennis federation that has also included a change of presidents.
