Newcastle's Wayne Bennett was at the launch of the Festival of Indigenous Rugby League

Due to the recent occurrence of the Rugby League World Cup, the Indigenous All Stars match for 2015 was replaced with a Festival of Indigenous Rugby League.

The code unveiled a team of 16 Indigenous players today who will compete in a match against Wayne Bennett’s Newcastle Knights in February.

“To me it was about continuity and consistency of what we’re trying to do with the Indigenous program and giving our continued support to our Indigenous players who make up big parts of our teams,” said Mr Bennett.

Laurie Daley was also in attendance at today’s launch and was glad to see young Indigenous players gain recognition for their sporting talent.

“I think that some of these guys are very capable of playing in the NRL,” said Mr Daley.
