Fever bracing for Bassett in netball GF

West Coast Fever hope a crowd in excess of 12,000 will cheer them on in Sunday's Super Netball grand final against Sunshine Coast Lightning at Perth Arena.

West Coast Fever midcourter Ingrid Colyer will resist the urge to text Caitlin Bassett this week as the former teammates prepare to do battle in Sunday's Super Netball grand final.

Bassett was the face of the Fever before leaving the club at the end of 2016 to join the Sunshine Coast Lightning.

The decision paid quick dividends for the star goal shooter, who helped lead the Lightning to last year's title.

Bassett now has the opportunity to go back-to-back but she'll have to do it on enemy territory against her former teammates.

The match-up of Bassett against Fever goalkeeper Courtney Bruce is set to play a crucial role in the outcome.

Colyer said it would be a strange feeling coming up against Bassett in the decider

"It will be crazy coming up against her when she's not in the green dress," Colyer said.

"It's something that we probably never imagined would happen - Caitlin versus Fever.

"I get along really well with Caitlin. It will be good to come up against her.

"I will probably keep it pretty low key this week (in terms of text messages) and then get back on chatting after the game."

The Fever are expecting a crowd in excess of 12,000 for Sunday's match at Perth Arena and hope up to a million people will view the broadcast

"It makes such a difference having that home crowd," Colyer said.

"The noise they make, it just lifts you when you're on court.

"I can't wait to step out there on Sunday and feel like a rock star."

The Fever will rely heavily on Jamaican goal shooter Jhaniele Fowler, who led the league in scoring this season and has played a key role in turning the club from easy beats into title contenders.

West Coast won just two games last year and Colyer said the team had gone back to basics during the pre-season in order to find the recipe for success.

The Fever have beaten Sunshine Coast twice already this season but only one goal separated the two sides in both matches.
