Fifield writing to ABC on Dutton complaint

Communications Minister Mitch Fifield is taking up a complaint made by Peter Dutton about an ABC program on offshore detention centres.

Communications Minister Mitch Fifield will write to the ABC boss over Immigration Minister Peter Dutton's claim the national broadcaster is campaigning against offshore detention centres.

"I was certainly troubled by the fact that Minister Dutton ... offered himself for a live interview at the conclusion of the program (and) that offer wasn't accepted," Senator Fifield said in reference to an ABC Four Corners program on detention centres.

He told Sky Agenda while there were a range of different cultures in the ABC, it was appropriate the broadcaster continually examined itself to make sure it was meeting its own standards of objectivity and partiality so different perspectives are put forward.
