Fiji appoint new sevens rugby coach

Former Wales sevens captain and coach Gareth Baber has been named to replace Ben Ryan as coach of Olympic champion Fiji's sevens rugby team.

Former Wales sevens captain and coach Gareth Baber has been appointed as the new head coach of Olympic champion Fiji's sevens rugby team, replacing Ben Ryan.

Ryan led the Fiji team to victory in the first Olympic sevens tournament in Rio de Janiero in August.

The 44-year-old Baber's appointment, which is until the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, was announced at a news conference in Suva on Friday.

Fiji Rugby Union chairman Francis Kean says the appointment of a new coach has been "much-anticipated" in Fiji - where sevens is the national sport.
