Education Minister Simon Birmingham has placed the schools in Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth on notice until April 11, after two schools in Sydney and Canberra had their funding cut for "inappropriately" using taxpayer money.

"This is a last chance and a final warning - we are willing to take the tough action of withdrawing funds," he told reporters in Canberra on Wednesday.
