WORLD FINANCE UPDATE:

The Australian dollar has regained ground following losses on the back of stronger-than-expected US jobs figures.

At 0700 AEST on Monday, the local currency was trading at 92.87 US cents, up from 92.71 cents on Friday.

And the Australian share market looks set to open higher despite a negative close on Wall Street as increased Ukraine tensions overshadowed strong US jobs figures.

At 0645 AEST on Monday, the June share price index futures contract was up seven points at 5,454.

ELSEWHERE:

LOS ANGELES - Australia has performed poorly in a new manufacturing cost competitiveness survey, finishing last among the world's top 25 manufacturing nations.

LISBON - Portugal has decided to make a clean break from its EU-IMF bailout, following in the footsteps of Ireland by forgoing a credit line as it prepares a full return to the credit markets.
