WORLD FINANCE UPDATE:

The Australian dollar has bounced after sentiment turned sour overnight as Brexit concerns intensified.

At 0700 AEST on Friday, the local unit was trading at 73.63 US cents, up from 73.48 cents on Thursday.

The Australian share market looks set to open higher after Wall Street closed in positive territory, ending a five-day losing streak with telecom companies leading the market.

At 0645 AEST on Friday, the share price index was up 41 points at 5,115.

ELSEWHERE:

WASHINGTON - US consumer prices moderated in May but sustained increases in housing and healthcare costs kept underlying inflation supported.

TOKYO - The Bank of Japan has kept monetary policy steady even as sluggish global growth and anaemic inflation put policymakers under pressure to do more to reflate the economy out of stagnation.

TAIPEI - Dutch chipmaking equipment firm ASML has agreed to buy Taiwanese peer Hermes Microvision for about T$100 billion ($4.18 billion) to strengthen the pair's technology offering for semiconductor manufacturers.

WASHINGTON - The US Senate has inched closer to scheduling votes on limited gun control measures after the Florida nightclub massacre.

LONDON - A British MP has been shot and killed in a daylight attack in her electorate in northern England.
