WORLD FINANCE UPDATE:

The rebounding greenback has snapped an eight-day rally of the Australian dollar.

At 0700 AEST on Friday, the local unit was trading at 74.31 US cents, down from 74.70 cents on Thursday.

And the Australian market looks set to open lower following a dip on Wall Street where led by financials slipped and lower oil prices weighed on energy companies.

At 0645 AEST on Friday, the share price index was down 27 points at 5,335.

ELSEWHERE:

WASHINGTON - The number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits unexpectedly fell last week, pointing to sustained strength in the labour market despite a sharp slowdown in hiring last month.

COPENHAGEN - Denmark's Dong Energy, which focuses on wind power generation, has seen its shares jump on the first day of trading, bringing its market value to 98 billion kroner ($A20.14 billion).

LONDON - Britain enjoyed the biggest surge in exports for more than 13 years in April after Brexit fears sparked sharp falls in the value of the pound.

MAPUTO - Mozambique's presidency said a statement about the sacking of Finance Minister

Adriano Maleiane, who has been at the centre of two weeks of negotiations over a delayed $178 million loan repayment, was incorrect.

BRASILIA - Brazil is considering an emergency loan to the cash-strapped state of Rio de Janeiro as it prepares to host the Olympic Games in less than two months, according to two senior government officials.
