WORLD FINANCE UPDATE:

The Australian dollar is The Australian dollar is a touch higher in quiet trade after European markets made solid gains overnight.

At 0630 AEST on Tuesday, the local unit was trading at 92.41 US cents, up from 92.38 cents on Monday.

The Australian share market is set to open higher after New York and London markets were closed for public holidays.

At 0651 AEST on Tuesday, the March share price index futures contract was seven points higher at 5,531.

SINTRA, Portugal - The European Central Bank remains "alert" to the dangers of eurozone inflation undershooting the central bank's medium-term targets, president Mario Draghi says, amid widespread concern about deflation risks.

BERLIN - The European Union's energy commissioner says a tentative deal has been reached for Ukraine's gas company to pay $US2 billion ($A2.16 billion) to Russia's Gazprom to end a dispute over Ukraine's gas debts and prevent a cutoff of Russian supplies.

MUMBAI - India's stock market has surged past the 25,000 mark as Narendra Modi prepares to be sworn in as prime minister, with investors betting his new cabinet will unleash reforms to revive the economy.
