WORLD FINANCE UPDATE:

The Australian dollar is higher ahead of the Reserve Bank's interest rate decision.

At 0630 AEST on Tuesday, the local unit was trading at 76.69 US cents, up from 76.09 cents on Monday.

And the Australian share market looks set to open higher after gains on Wall Street with investors anticipating that a feebler US dollar will boost US exports by making them cheaper overseas.

At 0645 AEST on Tuesday, the share price index was up 14 points at 5,237.

ELSEWHERE:

WASHINGTON - US construction spending advanced in March to its highest level in more than eight years, with gains in home building and non-residential construction offsetting a drop in government projects.

WASHINGTON - US factory activity expanded at a more moderate pace in April due in part to a slowdown in new orders, but a rise in export orders to a near one-and-a-half-year high and signs an inventory overhang drag was fading offered hope for the manufacturing sector.

SAO PAULO - A Brazilian judge has ordered wireless phone carriers to block access to Facebook Inc's WhatsApp for 72 hours throughout Latin America's largest country, the second such move against the popular messaging application in five months.

AMSTERDAM - Two Ukrainian energy companies have asked a UN arbitrator to award them compensation for investments they lost when Russia seized control of the Crimean peninsula, the Permanent Court of Arbitration says.
