WORLD FINANCE UPDATE:

The Australian dollar has recovered some of its losses following the release of Chinese economic data.

At 0630 AEST on Thursday, the local currency was trading at 93.68 US cents, up from 93.42 cents on Wednesday.

And the Australian share market looks set to open higher following a strong performance on Wall Street where the Dow Jones Industrial Average bolted to a new record.

At 0645 AEST on Thursday, the September share price index futures contract was up 17 points at 5,491.

ELSEWHERE:

BRASILIA - The BRICS group of emerging powers has met with South American presidents as they justified the creation of a development bank seen as an alternative to Western-dominated global financial organisations.

WASHINGTON - US producer prices rebounded more sharply than expected in June after a dip in May, largely driven higher by energy prices, according to government data released on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON - All regions of the United States have continued to expand their economic activity, the Federal Reserve says in a report.

SAN JOSE, California - EBay Inc has reported earnings that rose by 5.6 per cent in its second quarter, topping analysts' expectations.

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky - Yum Brands Inc has reported a 19 per cent increase in second-quarter profits as its business at KFC in China continues to rebound amid concerns about food safety.

FRANKFURT - German top-of-the-range carmaker BMW will increase the number of models it builds in China from three to six in the coming years to meet growing demand.
