WORLD FINANCE UPDATE:

The Australian dollar is higher after commodities extended recent gains.

At 0630 AEDT on Thursday, the currency was trading at 72.09 US cents, up from 71.85 cents on Wednesday.

And the Australian share market looks set to open higher after a rise in commodities prices set international bourses rallying.

At 0645 AEDT on Thursday, the December share price index futures contract was up 31 points at 5,221.

ELSEWHERE:

BRUSSELS - British beer giant SABMiller has rejected an improved $US103 billion ($A143.7 billion) takeover from Anheuser-Busch InBev, arguing it's too low, but a split has emerged with top shareholder Altria.

BERLIN - Volkswagen's new boss says the German car giant will need more than a year to fix all its pollution-cheating cars, as the company suspended four employees suspected of being behind the global deception.

JAKARTA - Indonesia has unveiled its third batch of stimulus measures in the space of a month, including a cut to energy prices, as Southeast Asia's biggest economy battles a slowdown.

NEW YORK - US seed giant Monsanto has forecast a fall in full-year earnings and announced job cuts in anticipation of continued low commodity prices that have hit the agriculture industry.

NEW YORK - General Electric has reshuffled several energy management and research operations into a new subsidiary called Current aimed at new energy technologies, the company has announced.
