WORLD FINANCE UPDATE:

The Australian dollar has shot up to the 95 US cent mark following the Reserve Bank of Australia's interest rate decision and strong manufacturing data out of China.

At 0630 AEST on Wednesday, the local currency was trading at 94.97 US cents, up from 94.58 cents on Tuesday.

And the Australian share market looks set to open higher after Wall Street stocks barrelled to new records, following strong US car sales and Chinese manufacturing data.

At 0645 AEST on Wednesday, the September share price index futures contract was up 19 points at 5,359.

ELSEWHERE:

WASHINGTON - US manufacturing grew in June for the 13th straight month, but the pace of the expansion slowed from May.

WASHINGTON - Government spending was the only driver of overall US construction spending in May, which edged up a scant 0.1 per cent from a year ago, the Commerce Department says.

WASHINGTON - US home prices rose in May compared with a year earlier, but the gains have slowed.

NEW YORK - US carmakers General Motors and Chrysler have reported higher US sales in June from a year ago, while rival Ford Motor notched a six per cent decline.

LONDON - The Bank of England has revealed that it had warned the British government in late 2011 to prepare for more banking bailouts at the height of the eurozone sovereign debt crisis.

WASHINGTON - US Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew says China's yuan currency remains undervalued, a longstanding sore point that will be raised at next week's high-level bilateral negotiations in Beijing.

SAN FRANCISCO - Microsoft says it is scrambling Outlook email messages in transit to thwart spying by governments or others.

SAN FRANCISCO - Computer giant Hewlett-Packard says it has reached a settlement in a shareholder lawsuit over its 2011 acquisition of British software firm Autonomy.

NEW YORK - Twitter is hiring a Goldman Sachs executive as its new chief financial officer.
