Finch taken to hospital after hit in ribs

Australia's Aaron Finch went to hospital for X-rays after he edged a pull shot into his ribs while batting for Yorkshire's Second XI.

Aaron Finch has been taken to hospital for x-rays following a nasty blow to the chest while batting for Yorkshire's Second XI.

The Australian limited-overs opener mistimed a pull shot onto his ribs while facing Worcestershire's Chris Russell in the lower-tier county match at Barnt Green near Birmingham on Monday, the Yorkshire County Cricket Club said.

Finch retired hurt and managed to walk from the field but reportedly found himself spitting blood after leaving the pitch.

"He left the field unaided and it was decided that he should go to hospital for a scan," Yorkshire's director of cricket Martyn Moxon said.

"We are waiting for results of that scan, but felt it was best for him to return to Leeds.

"We will monitor the situation and liaise with Cricket Australia."

Yorkshire confirmed Finch would play no further part in the game.

It was Finch's sixth match since returning from a hamstring injury early in the Indian Premier League in April but only his first with the red ball.

The 28-year-old was expected to play for Yorkshire's first team against Nottinghamshire, but the club decided he could do with some red-ball cricket before coming into their Championship side.

"Finchy hasn't played a lot of cricket since he came back from his injury, so Dizzy (Australian-born coach Jason Gillespie) spoke to him about playing in the Second XI," Moxon said.

"We thought it would be better spending time in the seconds and building it up again."
