Finch, Watto fire in T20 warm-up game

Australia openers Aaron Finch and Shane Watson have shared a 76-run stand in a World Twenty20 warm-up game against West Indies at Kolkata.

Aaron Finch has seemingly shored up his place in Australia's XI for the upcoming World Twenty20, outperforming Usman Khawaja in a warm-up game against West Indies.

Finch scored 33 opening up with Shane Watson in Kolkata, sharing a 76-run stand to lay the platform for a total of 9-161.

Khawaja scored five before he was caught behind off the bowling of Carlos Brathwaite.

Selectors will look at more than one match when determining who will open alongside Watson on Friday, when Australia's World T20 campaign starts against New Zealand.

But in what was essentially the final selection trial, it was a timely reminder of former T20 skipper Finch's talent.

It wasn't the powerful Victorian's most domineering innings; he cracked six fours and didn't clear the rope once.

Yet Finch and Watson, who top-scored with 60, were the clear standouts alongside skipper Steve Smith at Eden Gardens.

Smith contributed a measured 36, which was sorely needed following a collapse of 4-11.

No other batsman made it to double figures except John Hastings, who scored 10.

Towering left-arm tweaker Sulieman Benn raised further questions about Australia's capacity to crumble against spin.

Benn was on a hat-trick after dismissing Glenn Maxwell and Mitch Marsh.

Maxwell was bowled attempting a reverse-sweep, while Marsh chipped a catch to captain Darren Sammy in the covers.

Peter Nevill negotiated the hat-trick ball but was out soon after, having scored four off 10 deliveries.

Benn finished with figures of 3-37, while Dwayne Bravo dismissed Smith and Watson in a haul of 4-21.

Watson looked unstoppable, belting four sixes before he picked out Ashley Nurse in the deep.

David Warner, James Faulkner, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Ashton Agar were the members of Australia's 15-man squad sitting out the warm-up fixture.

Faulkner has a sore hamstring but team management expect he will be fit for the upcoming trans-Tasman clash.

Agar is dealing with a gastro bug.
