A total fire ban has been put in place across large swathes of southern NSW as parts of the state brace for temperatures in the mid-40s.
The NSW Rural Fire Service announced on Thursday that it would be banning fires in the far south coast and the Southern Slopes and Ranges on Friday with severe weather predicted for those regions.
Meanwhile a total fire ban will also be in place for the whole of the ACT.
It comes as temperatures are tipped to reach 41C in Canberra and 39C in Sydney's west.
Deniliquin near Victoria's border is posed to be the hottest spot in NSW with tops of 45C forecast.

Meanwhile Dubbo in the state's central west is predicted to experience a maximum of 39C.
Sydneysiders near the coast are not likely to suffer much with tops of 29C on Friday and 31C on Saturday.
