Fire risks lives in SA Mount Lofty Ranges

A bushfire in South Australia's Mount Lofty Ranges is threatening lives and homes, authorities say.

Thousands of people were left stranded as three bushfires burn out of control in Tasmania.

An uncontrolled bushfire at Humbug Scrub in South Australia's Mount Lofty Ranges is threatening lives.

The serious bushfire is burning near Kersbrook Road, South Para Road, Kersbrook-Forreston Road, Sheoak Road and Kestel Road, the Country Fire Service says.

The Sampson Flat fire is travelling northeast towards South Para Road, Sambell Road, Bassnet Road, Humbug Scrub Road, Trevilla Road, Frank Barker Road, Framic Drive, Taylor Road and Karwin Road.

There is a risk to lives and homes.

The uncontrolled fire is burning in scrub.

The area should be avoided but residents should only leave if there is a clear path to a safe place, the Country Fire Service says.

Homes that are actively defended and well-prepared may provide safety, the CFS says.
