Fire threatens homes in Adelaide Hills

Bushfires considered the worst in the Adelaide Hills area in 30 years are again posing a risk to homes.

Bushfires are again posing a risk to properties in the Adelaide Hills.

The Country Fire Service has issued a watch and act alert for the Sampson Flat bushfire, in the Mount Lofty ranges.

"The Sampson Flat fire is continuing to burn and cause concern in the following areas: Watts Gully area near South Para Road and Deloraine Road," according to a CFS statement.

Properties in the Cudlee Creek area - between Gorge Road and Torrens Valley Road - and also by Cudlee Creek Road, near Paracombe Road and Torrens Hill Road, are also considered at risk.

The fire is burning in a southerly direction and the CFS also warned the entire perimeter of the Sampson Flat fire "may have active hotspots".

The fires have claimed at least a dozen homes, and there are fears for 20 others, though no lives have been lost.

They are the worst fires in the Adelaide Hills since the Ash Wednesday blaze in 1983, in which 28 people died in South Australia.

Crews are working to contain the blaze to within its general perimeter before more hot weather arrives on Wednesday.
