Firebirds stars share MVP prize

Queensland pair Romelda Aiken and Laura Geitz are the dual winners of the Firebirds' annual MVP award following a tied vote count.

Queensland Firebirds stars Romelda Aiken and Laura Geitz have shared the trans-Tasman netball competition club's most valuable player award.

Jamaica goaler Aiken and Australia captain Geitz ended the count tied on votes as the Firebirds brought the curtain down on their season at an awards dinner in Brisbane on Friday.

Aiken finished the year as the competition's top scorer with 563 goals from 674 attempts (83.5 per cent) as the Firebirds finished runners-up to the Melbourne Vixens.

Gritty defender Geitz was the league's best for deflections (85) and interceptions (44), playing a key role as Queensland reached their second consecutive grand final.

Aiken also picked up the club's players' player award while Gabi Simpson and Verity Simmons took home the members and spirit awards respectively.
