It won't be ready for the upcoming bushfire season, but firefighters next year will be able to get satellite updates of fire hotspots every 10 minutes.

Geoscience Australia is working on software and satellite technology to give fire crews information every 10 minutes instead of every six hours.

The federal government allocated $250,000 to the project which will be completed mid-ext year.
